Several splendid newspaper articles have focused on Keith Gilbertson Sr. over the final decade of his 61-year coaching career at Snohomish.
Coach Gilbertson died in February of 2011 at age 83, ending a legendary career at his high school alma mater.
Among the best reads readily assessible on the Internet are a pair of Daily Herald articles written by sports columnist Larry Henry: ‘Gilby’ Senior: Meet the definition of coach/mentor, published on Dec. 10, 2000, and  A lifetime spent coaching, published on July 15, 2006. The earlier piece features comments from a half-dozen former SHS athletic standouts including Curt Marsh, Denny Schuler, Kristen Brockman, Barry Rodland, Tim Lockhart and Tom Sursely.
More recently, the Herald’s Rich Myhre wrote Coach Gilb: 60 years supporting Snohomish sports, published on July 20, 2009. Among those commenting on Gilby in that article are coaching colleagues Ken Roberts, Ed Lucero and Jack de Kubber, and former SHS star athletes Ken Emmil, Ben Krause and Daesha Henderson.
From the Seattle Times, Craig Smith wrote Love of coaching keeps Gilbertson Sr. going strong, published on Nov. 2, 2004, and Bob Sherwin captured a more vulnerable side in Volunteer coach learns to let emotions flow, published on March 16, 2005, just after the Panther girls basketball team’s heartbreaking overtime loss to Garfield in the state finals.
